What’s Happening at Good Shepherd

Bear Creek Day Camp

July 21-25, 2008
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Bear Day Camps are action packed adventures for campers who are in elementary school. Morning watch, games, arts and crafts, nature activities, singing, and Vespers make the week an exiting and fun time that helps campers grow in their understanding of God, self, creation, and community.

The day camp is co-sponsored by the Wilkes Barre Lutheran Churches, St. Mark, Messiah, St. John, and Good Shepherd.

The camp fee is $75.00 and the option overnight at Bear Creek Camp is $11.00. Scholarships are available. Contact the Good Shepherd church office at 824-2991 for more information and registration material.

Annual Church Picnic

This year’s annual church picnic will be held Sunday, July 27th at 12:30 PM. The picnic will be at the Luzerne County Recreation park located next to next to the Forty Fort airport. Hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, and condiments will be provided. We ask that you bring a side dish or desert to share. There will be games for all ages. Come out and spend an afternoon of fun, food, and fellowship. Call the church office if you need a ride or directions.

Four Youth Confirmed

Four youth were confirmed through the Affirmation of Baptism on Sunday, May 11,2008. Through the Affirmation of Baptism, the youth confirmed the promises that their parents and sponsors made for them at Baptism and publicly affirmed their belief in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Good Shepherd’s confirmation program includes three years of faith education by the pastors and lay instructors. Classes cover the sacraments, prayer, Bible study, Lutheran theology, and their relationship with God as Christians. Candidates are matched with an adult mentor during the third year.  This relationship helps strengthen their faith through a special bond with their mentor.

August Worship Schedule

Changes will be coming to our worship services in August. The Saturday evening worship service will remain at 6:00 p.m. but will move to the Good Shepherd Center. These changes will allow us to be better stewards of the resources God provides.
